This book was interesting to me because I like writing/journalism, fashion, and event coordinating. I was able to learn about the magazine industry and how a women like Anna Wintor made it to the top of the industry. She didn't graduate high school but always has a passion for fashion growing up in Europe and had a well connected father who was a journalist and ran a newspaper. The combination of strive, connection and passion is how come Wintor is where she is at today. She is a very interesting person with power and an icy personality.
Candace Bushnell ring a bell? Her first book was Sex and the City (S&TC) which was the basis for the TV show Sex and the City. I am an absolute fan of S&TC, Sarah Jessica Parker, New York and Big! The movie is an all time favorite of mine and I can't wait for S&TC II - Get Carried Away. I have a New York blog if you want to read more about S&TC and the tour I took when I was in New York.
But more about One Fifth Avenue (Bushnell's fifth book), the cover is pretty perfect! I wouldn't change a thing about it. The characters in the book are all ages which leaves a wide scope of people who would be interested. It's a great summer book to read out by the pool. The most interesting aspect of this book is that it introduces you to New York real estate. The landmark buildings protected to preserve it's look is a big deal in New York. One Fifth Avenue, correctly named in real life is Fifth Avenue. It's the place to live if you have or want status in NYC. Everyone wants to live on One Fifth, where old money has been for generations and where new money wants to move in. These buildings really have doormen, people really tip them, only people with familiar faces are welcome. It's like an exclusive club to be a part of.
